The challenge sees all Galbraith employees attempt to cover the distance of the equator (40,075km) across the month of March through any means of movement, to encourage a healthy lifestyle and promote positive wellbeing practices all whilst raising vital support for Samaritans, a mental health crisis support charity.
Through their partnership with Edinburgh Rugby, Galbraith have recruited 66-cap Scotland International and British and Irish Lion Ali Price, as well as Edinburgh Rugby prop Boan Venter. The duo will track their exercises through an app linked to their smart watches with all movement contributing towards the total goal.
Galbraith will also work closely with Edinburgh’s performance team to receive relevant match data that can be tracked.
To date Galbraith have covered almost 11,000kms. The challenge started virtually in East Africa heading east through the Indian Ocean. The team have passed the Maldives on their way to Indonesia and are now a stone’s throw from Papua New Guinea. Samaritans is not only for the moment of crisis, they’re taking action to prevent the crisis. They give people ways to cope and the skills to be there for others. They encourage, promote and celebrate those moments of connection between people that can save lives. The charity offer listening and support to people and communities in times of need.
In prisons, schools, hospitals and on the rail network, Samaritans are working with people who are going through a difficult time and training others to do the same.
Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy, and Samaritans’ vision is that fewer people die by suicide.
